At Motion Drives and Controls we are extremely proud of our dedicated staff who frequently pull out all the stops to help our customers. We feel that one particular member of staff deserves a shout out after his incredible triumph over adversity.
Tim Heslop and his family were making the final preparations for a trip of a lifetime to see relatives in New Zealand over Christmas last year. Cruelly however, after a diagnosis of testicular cancer, Tim ended up in hospital having surgery to remove the cancer on the very day that he and his family should have been flying off to New Zealand. Following the surgery Tim was given the devastating news that the cancer had spread and that an intensive 9 week course of chemotherapy was needed to help him beat it.
Not being one to lie down in the face of adversity, keen runner Tim decided to set himself a challenge of running the Tewkesbury Half Marathon, which was just five months after his surgery. During his recovery and preparation for the race, Tim and his wife Mandy kept a daily record on his running against cancer blog, http://timheslop.blogspot.co.uk/. Reading the blog really brings home the level of adversity Tim faced; it is a brilliant testimony to the determination of Tim and his family to overcome the illness and return to normal life.
An experience runner and veteran of over 30 half marathons, Tim found the initial training extremely tough, yet despite having one month of running preparation, was fit ready to line up with the other runners of the half marathon on May 19th. He finished the race in his target time of 1 hour and 55 minutes. As a double cause for celebration, Tim was given the ‘all clear’ against cancer in test results that came back two weeks prior to the marathon.
We would like to congratulate Tim on his success in the half marathon and wish him every success in his next big run – the Evesham Vale Running Club’s 10k race (an event for which Tim was one of the founders). The event has become a family affair, with his son Ben taking over as Entry Secretary to help his dad during his treatment. Tim’s family are a force to be reckoned with – so we’re sure that it will be another success for team Heslop.
